Give it Your All
Aside from all the great family time over Chanukah, I gave 10 different concerts. I performed in different cities (New York, Baltimore, Jerusalem), in different venues and for different ages. Some days I saw almost 1,000 kids. What a high! The interaction and positive feedback were amazing, so personally meaningful.
Now, I always say when I teach students, “It doesn’t matter if 1,000 or 10 people are watching… Give it Your All!”
Well, due to scheduling conflicts, I got the opportunity to practice my own advice for one concert. Only a handful of families showed. But I decided right then and there that I would make the smallest concert I ever performed my best. Because those kids deserved it. Because each person watching is an individual, a “world,” ready to be inspired and filled with joy.
And that’s exactly what happened. It was a fabulously fun concert, and because of the smaller numbers, everyone had even more chance to participate. We all “lit up” with joy on Chanukah. And that is a priceless thing, far beyond the question of “numbers.”
Doing and being our best is not something to save for “big” occasions. It’s something we need to cultivate along the way, in each of the little moments. Because the truth is, every moment of life is something huge, and we have the power to transform these moments and light up the world.
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy winter!
