Welcome to Week 5! This week, we’ll add even more fun steps, including more complicated moves – which you can do, because you’ve learned so much!
We’ll learn the famous step Shirley Temple, and a new turn called Flap Heel Turn. We’ll also do a favorite step of mine, which I named “Soldier’s Step.” Then we’ll cover Toe Heel Step and Flap Heel Toe and put bunch of these steps together for a great combination. For our Class 3 dance, we’ll be doing another Rebbetzin Tap song, “Stay Up All Night,” featuring my husband, David Bar-Cohn. So… Much… Fun!
Thought for the week:
It started with a single step. Now look back and see how far you’ve gotten!
Class 1: The Shirley Temple Step
Shirley Temple was an adorable tap-dancing little girl who became famous in the 1930’s, and they named the “Shirley Temple” tap dance step after her. Now, this step is a little more complicated than our earlier steps, but don’t worry, we’re going to break it down, practice it part by part, and eventually get it perfectly. Let’s get started!
Class 2: Soldier’s Step & Flap Heel Turn
Get ready – this class is packed with steps! We start with a step that’s a little different and interesting, which I call “Soldier’s Step” because you keep your body stiff and move back and forth, like a soldier. Then we learn a fun and easy step called Flap Heel Toe, followed by a new turn using Flap Heels which is called, you guessed it, Flap Heel Turn. After that, we learn another combination that brings together Toe Heel Step from last class, plus Flap Heel Heel. It’s going to be a great class!
Class 3: Dance Routine #5
Time for our 5th dance routine! This week, we’ll be dancing to another song from our “Jewish Holiday Celebration” DVD, called “Stay Up All Night.” My husband, David Bar-Cohn, wrote the song and sings in it, and it’s about the fun we have staying up learning Torah on Shavuot. We’ve included the video for the song as a bonus below!
This routine features our steps from this week, “Shirley Temple” and “Soldier’s Step,” as well as Flap Heel Toe, Shuffle Toe Shuffle Step, Toe Heel Step, Flap Heel Heel, 3 Flaps Heel, and Dig Heel Toe Heel. So, let’s jump right in!
Bonus: Watch “Stay Up All Night” from the DVD!
